The New Year’s performance was an evening filled with music, dance, and cabaret that captivated the audience from start to finish. We opened the night in style with "Goedenavond" by Wim Sonneveld, for which we worked with Ricardo Sibelo to create a choreography that immediately connected us with the audience. This set the stage for a versatile and atmospheric performance.

A particularly special moment was "Schilflieder" by August Klughardt. Through lighting and stage presentation, we aimed to bring the poetry to life and spark the audience’s imagination, making the music even more immersive. This was followed by a powerful performance of "Yo soy Maria" from the opera "Maria de Buenos Aires" by Astor Piazzolla, where Maria (from Zoetermeer 😉) performed a stunning tango with Santiago Cimadevilla on bandoneon.

The evening held even more surprises, such as the knight’s dance from Sergei Prokofiev, where I also joined in for a short dance alongside the other dancers.

In the final part of our performance, dedicated to chansons, we added a nostalgic touch to Zoetermeer’s history. Together with Lorenzo Nonnekens, our technician and editor, we explored the city archives and found old photos and videos, including one of a butcher shop called J. vd Berg. This inspired us to adjust the lyrics of "Het Dorp", making it even more personal. During the performance, Lorenzo’s beautifully edited video was shown, which deeply moved the audience.

For the grand finale, we performed La Vie en Rose by Edith Piaf, inviting all the artists back on stage. It was a magical ending to an evening full of emotion, memories, and musical artistry.

What a way to start the new year!
